Being invested as a Beaver

Investiture is when your Beaver makes their promise and becomes a full member of the Colony. You will be notified of the date. Please come along to see your Beaver make their promise in the last part of the meeting. All family members and significant people in your Beaver's life are welcome, and you can take photos of your own child. If you or your Beaver can't make it on this date or you feel it is too soon for your child to be invested, let us know and we will arrange another date.

Before your Beaver can be invested you need to:

  • buy their uniform
  • let us know which version of the promise they would like to make
  • start paying subs
  • ensure all your Beaver's details are up to date on OSM

Uniform

The Beaver sweatshirt is compulsory, although some of our Beavers also like to wear the Beaver polo shirt.

You can buy Beaver sweatshirt online from a number of different sites, such as:

We will provide the scarf, woggle and badges when your Beaver is invested (makes their Beaver promise).

Promises

Please talk to you Beaver about which version of the Promise they wish to make and let us know which one they want to use. You can see all the different versions of the Scout Promise here.

Membership Subscription (Subs)

Our Group Treasurer, Rod Day, should already have been in touch with you about paying subs. Beavers pay £15 per month, ideally by standing order. It is a great help to the Group if you are a UK tax payer and you sign the Gift Aid declaration on OSM. Rod will provide full information.

Drop off and Pickup

Drop off and pickup are at the Scout Hut most weeks, but will occasionally be elsewhere - please check our weekly email for details.

Please do not drive into the Scout Hut compound and do not turn your car in the Scout Hut gate when dropping off or picking up your Beaver as there is a risk that one of the Beavers could get hit by your car.

If you are staying to help at the Beaver meeting, you can park in the Scout Hut compound (you are likely to get a parking ticket if you leave your car on the road outside), but please be very careful driving in and out. It's great if you can arrive a few minutes early and leave a few minutes later so that there are fewer people around.

Helping Out

Everyone who helps to run Beavers and the wider 1st Hertford group is a volunteer. It takes many people to deliver the meetings your child attends every week, working in a wide variety of roles - including planning and delivering the meetings, cleaning and maintaining the Scout hut, being a trustee, treasurer or other executive for the group, and admin roles such as ordering badges, buying supplies, doing the paperwork for events and welcoming new Beavers.

We are always looking for adults who can take on a volunteering role with the Colony or with the Group as a whole - if you (or someone you know) would like to volunteer with us, please talk to us about jobs that need doing - we are a friendly and welcoming bunch, training for the role will be provided for free and there will always be something you can do to help no matter how much time you have to give!

As always, if you have any questions, use the form below or ask us at Beavers.
